FA HUA CAI, PORCELAIN
Hibiscus & ocean waves
This porcelain plate reflects my deep connection to Manly's summer landscape. The hibiscus blooms, a vibrant presence in the warmer months, and the gentle ocean waves serve as constant sources of inspiration.
I've sought to capture their essence through a personal approach to the Fa Hua Cai technique. Delicate outlines of wet slip clay, applied using a tube-lining method, form compartments that are then filled with underglaze paints. This floating technique allows for subtle color blending, capturing the soft hues of the summer atmosphere.
My journey with Fa Hua Cai is one of ongoing refinement and exploration. It's a process of delving deeper into the possibilities of color and form, continually learning and evolving with each piece.
This plate is a moment within that journey, a testament to the beauty found in both the natural world and the enduring pursuit of artistic skill.
